Diversity Festival

The Ethnicity and Equity Group of Bedfordshire Youth Offending Service was approached by Bedford Race Equality Council to work with them on an event that would be focused on diversity.

It was agreed that the event would be aimed at young people and that it would provide a great opportunity to find out what their understanding of
hate crime was and how important the subject was to them. Wooden Hill was asked to carry out consultations with young people in Bedfordshire to see what the event should look like, and then be the central point to pull the whole thing together. The result was an amazing day in February 2008 attended by over 100 young people who had the opportunity to sample

food from all over the globe, attend theatre, dance and drumming workshops, watch movies and pick up loads of information (and freebies) relating to diversity and hate crime.
The day also included live music, dance demonstrations, quizzes, a poster competition and an amazing interactive demonstration by Canine combining drama with showing how police sniffer dogs do their job .

Wooden Hill Young Trainers were put in charge of gathering information, evaluation and thoughts and opinions, which they did with gusto and in a variety of creative ways.

The project was recently short listed for the partnership working award at the Bedford Race Equality Council Equality & Diversity Awards 2008
